This a great and heart-warming story, proving that concrete actions to sometimes occur in government. I have to ask, did I misunderstand the amount lost? Wasn't it $45,000. What became of the $28,000? Donald Trump had not been in power back then, or I would assume he got his greedy little hands on it... a "Presidential surcharge," .... or a new form of tariff?

Indeed. A lot of good stuff goes on behind the scenes. You won’t realize it till it’s gone. On this note, I’m contemplating a modest proposal of my own to “solve” our immigration problem. Stay tuned. As for the missing money, there has to be physical evidence of at least half (50%+) of each bill for the government to be able to reimburse for mutilated currency. If you think about it, there’s quite good reason for that. Presumably, most of the bills were destroyed either totally or in large part. Señora Luna was reimbursed in the amount of those bills that remained more than half verifiable. In this case, something was way better than nothing.
