Foreign Policy Plays Almost No Role in US Presidential Election but the Result Will Dramatically Shape the US Role in the World (Ensuring Continuity or Promising Upheaval)
You present a very grim scenario, Alexis. One which might unfortunately materialize. One of the key ingredients of successful foreign policy is predictability. Whether one likes it or not, knowing what to expect makes one more equipped to counter or agree with what’s coming. Fingers crossed here, South of the Equator.
Yes, it's either some degree of continuity and predictability (with the attendant caveats and risks) or all bets are off. The volatility of the international context makes the X factor more potent still. Fingers crossed here too.
I'm sorry but this is one of the most bizarre and unhinged examples of Trump Derangement Syndrome I've ever seen or read. The false narratives and bizarre (yet thoroughly Deep State-compliant) analyses of the state of the world and the content and meaning of Trump's (scarcely mentioned) policies permeate this piece to such an extent that it's difficult to know where to begin. I literally found myself laughing in incredulity as I read it, especially the sanctimonious parts about the need to preserve "rules-based international order" etc. It is magical thinking wrapped in an onion's worth of denial and delusion about the many decades of US-led crime and thuggery carried out on behalf of the private interests of the international elites who control it.
If, after all the world has gone through and is going through, "practitioners" (yes, I laughed - and cringed a little - at that pompous, and repeated, word choice) who supposedly have experience, education and logical minds can only end up reinforcing these same sorts of self-serving and cartoonish narratives about the US and its role in the world, and the genesis of Trump's policies, then we are all well and truly screwed.
Exhibit A: Expecting blind subservience by a US President to intelligence agencies that have been thoroughly captured and directed by foreign interests and which have been exposed time and again for massive corruption is a world-class level of bizarre. And the apparently religious dogma-level belief and OUTRAGE at the suggestion that these intelligence agencies would never conceivably even TRY to feed false Intel to a sitting President had me rolling in the aisle.
Seriously? Things are about to change in this world in a major way. Wouldn't it be better to learn about those coming changes, understand them and get in front of them, rather than regurgitate tired establishment media talking points? Those policies have all been discussed to death, and very openly, for YEARS, yet in this piece you suggest suggest that Trump's behaviours will manifest only after his inauguration.

Absolutely incredible.
